Casus Belli

My heart says
try to win her back.
It asks after her mother,
wonders if she questioned
her continued lack of husband,
and who is this strange woman who keeps calling?

My heart says
don't give up.
It does not listen when I say
"pathetic" - it only gets together with my stomach
staging a hunger strike until I act.

My heart says
it is worth it.
She is worth it, you are worth it.
Persevere. Do not let her shut you out.
Love may not inspire or require a response;
Responsibility is something else again.

Perfect love casteth out fear,
perfect love and perfect trust.
No harm can come to those on their true path.
I am a child of sorrow in the house of death,
nurturing the ember of a spark,
listening to the urgings
of the cracked voice of my heart.
