I am interested in a Legal Assistant position at your firm. I believe that I am well qualified for the position based on my previous experience working at a law firm, my administrative and customer service experience, and my strong computer and communication skills.

I have worked twenty hours a week as an intern-investigator in the law office of The Defender Association from ten months. The Defender Association has provided me with training and experience in many areas of the law, including locating and interviewing witnesses, researching criminal histories, understanding confidentiality and conflict of interest issues, using online databases such as JIS, SCOMIS and ECR, producing trial exhibits, and researching statutes as well as understanding Washington Court Rules.

I am currently enrolled in the Paralegal Certification Program at Edmonds Community College where I am taking night classes. I have taken classes in civil procedure, legal writing and research and criminal, employment and tort law. I am familiar with Washington Court Rules, locating statutes and case law, and citation rules. I know how to use West’s publications and online search engine as a research tool and Washington Practice as a guide to generate court documents.

As a member of the Seattle Displacement Coalition I assisted with office administration, computer maintenance, and grant writing support in addition to community organizing responsibilities. My community organizing responsibilities included initiating and running programs such as a street feed, a homeless drop-in center, a small housing program and many community forums.

I have many years of experience maintaining computers and computer networks, and can quickly learn how to use computer software and services. I have installed many computer networks and maintain some computer networks on an on-call basis. I also have experience training people on how to use and understand their computer systems.
