Eric Andersen - Violets of Dawn
Eric wrote the most personal and introspective songs of the lot, presaging today's singer/songwriters. Remember  "I'll write you a letter on a Dusty Box Car Wall"?
This July 1999 release is a 20-bit remastered Vanguard Sessions compilation of the best of his 1960's work for Vanguard.  Also, Eric made new recordings this year of classic folk-revival songs by Fred Neil, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Tim Hardin, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Peter LaFarge, Paul Siebel, David Blue, Patrick Sky, and EA himself, including the newly penned title song The Street Was Always ThereEric Andersen gives these passionate songs the emotional intensity they deserve. It is evident that Andersen believes in the messages, and that he sings from the heart, not from nastalgia. He sounds very natrual singing these songs, preserves their integrity, while making them sound fresh and contemporary.
