2 Hour Vacations

Cascading water in forest.

2 Hour Vacation? No - it's not the duration of the vacation; it's the 179 minutes (or less) that it takes to get somewhere so you can be on vacation. The idea of 2 Hour Vacations - and yes, 2 hours and 59 minutees is still just 2 hours and a few extra minutes - came to us as we realized that spending hours of travel time to 'get away' was time not spent 'away'. No matter where we've been in the world there's always been some town, village, hamlet, beach, castle (you can fill in your own destination) that's just a little distance away from where we are at the moment that has a charm or quality that's intriguing enough for us to want to go there and that became the idea for this website.

Since we've been in Seattle we find that a quick weekend trip is fun, practical, and affordable for us and that traveling for a few hours gets us to a town with a motel, a grocery store, and a restaurant - the rest of the fun is up to us. With online tools like Google Maps and Google Earth one can browse a region and find all sorts of places of interest with nearby lodging, dining and recreation. Don't forget that a paper map and sense of adventure can help accomplish the same goal of fun and discovery.

The following pages will give you a quick glimpse into where we've been, how we got there, and what we saw and did. The travel times are based on basic Google Map driving directions. Please feel free to use the form on our Contact Page to let us know about places that you've found to be interesting or places about which you'd like us to investigate.
