We had high hopes for
Sequim- Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and Dungeness Spit, some of the
least rainy weather in our area, and of course - an award winning waterfront
restaurant near Dungeness Spit. Well, let me tell you what we think:
We stayed a little way outside of town at a place to be un-named. The room we got had no hot water and most of the lightbulbs were missing. A trip to the office got us another room but the manager called the next morning and said we could move back into the room that they originally assigned us. Someone didn't finish their Masters Degree at Cornell University School of Hotel Adminsitration. Having said that we did find nice waterside strolls on some back roads that ended up at John Wayne Marina. If you have a boat and are going to Sequim this appears to be the place to tie up.
The main road through town is strictly a commercial boulevard but there are some really nice drives (or bike rides) to the east and north of the city out toward the water. We did notice many Bed & Breakfast establishments and there is at least one that has small cabins. If you go to Sequim when fields of lavender plants are blooming you'll have an olfactory treat.
WHALES! I almost forgot. We came upon a loop road that was adjacent to the entrance to Dungeness Wildlife Refuge and we stopped at an overlook and saw a Gray Whale mother and calf! They were about 50 meters off shore and swimming leisurely toward Dungeness Spit. 'Twas and pretty great moment.
